BGU Grant F'back 2024 Longsight Lodge

Longsight Lodge Residents Association is a social housing scheme for people aged 60 years and over. There are 33 flats for independent living.

Many residents are in their 80's. The community garden is a safe place and the grant has enabled us to buy flowers.  Residents can all help in any way they are able to plant out and enjoy the garden. This helps keep people emotionally,  mentally and physically well. They also engage in activities which help decrease  a sense of isolation.

The community garden also welcomes visitors from the wider community as well as residents family, friends and carers. We hold regular social events to which the wider community is invited. The sense of pride in where we live and the feeling of having nature and beauty around us helps everyone involved.

The local community benefits by the increase in pride in the area, the provision of honey for local residents and the opportunity to keep active and increased sense of belonging,  which helps reduce isolation and builds friendship

We keep bees and the additional plants will provide pollen for the bees. It also improves the whole environment by making it beautiful for local residents.
