Many thanks for the BGU funding, we really appreciate it.
The funding has been spent on purchasing shrubs, grasses and autumn flowering plants to extend the season of interest at the Brick Beds on Mornington Rd. These are being grown on as we bought small to have more plants. We have spent the rest of the money on primroses for an embankment on Captains Clough where there are already a small number of primroses established and for cowslips for nearby grassland.
The plants for the brick beds will extend the season of interest in the brick beds which currently peak in spring and summer. The plants for Captains Clough will provide further spring interest using native plants.
It is lovely that the volunteers have been given this award. They feel recognised for what they are doing and feel that they are creating something even more beautiful.
This has benefitted the local community because the plants for the brick bed will extend the season of interest in what is now a much loved feature in an otherwise bleak urban landscape near the local supermarket. The plants on Captains Clough will provide lovely native flowering plants for users of the Clough.
We have not yet planted out as we have bought small to get better value for money. The primroses and cowslips have not yet arrived but a community planting day will be arranged for when they do. Pictures shown are for our spring display for which we have had comments such as “It makes me smile when I walk past in a morning” and "I love these beds”
