About Bolton North East Wildlife Trail (Bolton NEWT)

Bolton NEWT engages the community in collaboration, improvement and practical conservation of local wildlife. Volunteers lead the way in managing a community growing hub on Bolton At Home land, where we grow and donate surplus food to food banks. We also manage the wildlife habitats at Leverhulme Park in partnership with Bolton Council, hosting large community events that are free for people to enjoy, and each year support Remembrance Day activities including a display on Bury Road and fund raising for the Royal British Legion.

Sunday Little Newts, two Sundays a month we meet from 2pm till 5pm to carry out conservation tasks at Leverhulme Park. Open to all ages, simply turn up on the day and we'll provide full training, equipment/tools/PPE and a hot brew. Bolton NEWT committee members have over seven years of conservation management experince ranging from hedgelaying, wetland management, forest management, wildflower/meadow management and is leading Bolton on rewilding projects, only recently we created and planted an orchard at Leverhulme Park with plans to introduce wild strawberries to suitable controlled habitats. The location of where we meet varies and therefore we ask potential volunteers to check our Facebook page for the current site location of work.

Garstang Hub on Garstang Avenue, you'll find our Community Allotments that we use for food growing, wood working, rewilding and it even has an outdoor gym we made. The site is open every Wednesday from 4pm till 7pm and every Saturday from 11am till 2pm, open to all ages, welcoming for all and great if you'd like to volunteer or just pop by for a natter.

Bolton NEWT is entirely formed by local residents and volunteers who want to not only make their neighbourhoods a better place to live but to bring back a real sense of community. All funding grants and donations to Bolton NEWT are used for hosting our public events to keep them free and to purchase tools or seeds/plants to enhance public land. Why not send us an email, message us or check us out on Facebook or Youtube.
